How To Prepare A Babies Nursery

Friday, October 15th, 2010

Motherhood is an elusive experience reserved only for women. It is a joyous moment to bring life to the world and a mother should enjoy every moment of it. The relationship of a mother and child is established before the birth. A baby develops in the womb of its mother and it is during this phase that she takes a lot of care for herself so that the baby is healthy.

However, starting a family is not easy and needs well thought planning. One has to be mentally prepared to be a parent. After 3 years of marriage my husband and I finally decided that we should have a baby. The day I got the news of my pregnancy I was overwhelmed and shared the news with my husband and family.

Like any other first time mother I was nervous but at the same time very happy. I was particular about taking pre natal vitamins on time and strictly adhered the doctor’s guidance. I ensured that I ate well and included a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Once a while I would take a glass or two of wine with dinner, but I completely gave up on it as alcohol is not good for an expecting mother.

From a book store I bought a number of books on child care, especially meant for first time moms. In one of the editions of the book I was intrigued by the concept of preparing a babies nursery for the new born. Although our house was not so big, it has three rooms and one of it could be remodeled into a baby’s nursery.

I discussed the idea with my husband and he agreed with it and told me to start planning for the same. Initially I had thought of contacting an professional designer to do the room, but the cost of it was way beyond our budget. I was a little disappointed and my sister suggested that instead I should design the room and that she will help me in it.

After that we went to shopping and bought several things that we needed for the room like small tiny tables and chair, cute bed spreads and pillow, a nice cradle bed and lot of toys. As I was cleaning and preparing the design of the room I saw some damage on the roof of the room. There were some crack on the roof which needed immediate repair and I instantly contacted Shreveport roofers. They promptly responded to my call and repaired the roof with perfection.

The nursery or the baby’s room had an attached bathroom and I wanted to remodel it to make it child friendly and secure. Before I could begin with the remodeling I noticed that the bathroom was suffering with some plumbing faults. The pipes underneath the sink were broken leading to wastage of water as well as making the floor of the bathroom wet. In order to repair the fault in the bathroom I rang plumbers in Shreveport. They not only repaired all the problems in the bathroom but also suggested ways to convert the bathroom child friendly. I also told them to replace the faucets and got anti-slip tiles on the flooring. Within 3 days bathroom renovation was done. After that I painted the walls of the bathroom and added a lot of colors and water proof toys in the bathroom.

After roof repair and bathroom the next step was to paint the walls. I decided to use eco friendly paints which are healthy as it is devoid of volatile organic content or Voc. With the help of my sister we managed to finished [painting] the room in two days. The light lemon color I used for the room made it appear vibrant, nice and lively. Post painting I moved in the furniture and arranged the room. However, I realized that the existing lights were not going well with the décor and more lights were required in the room. I contacted electricians in Shreveport in order to add more lights in the room. The extra lights in the room made the room appear very beautiful.

Both my sister and I were very happy with our work. My husband was equally impressed and loved the room. Two weeks after the completion of the room I delivered a healthy baby girl. She is nearly 3 years old now and enjoys doing all kind of activity in her room.
