Turn The Guest Room Into A Nursery
Thursday, April 29th, 2010The doctor has just confirmed the home pregnancy test. In seven months there is going to be a new baby. This is going to make some changes necessary at your home. The first step is finding a room that can be converted into a nursery. For many couples, the most logical choice is the guest room.
Converting a guest room to be used as a nursery may not require that much work. Of course, the first thing that will have to happen is most of the guest room furniture will need to be moved out. While you may simply move the furniture to storage, or donate it to charity, if the season is right, you may also consider a yard sale.
After you have cleared out the room, take time to examine the basics. Will the carpets need to be replaced or can they simply be cleaned and vacuumed. What about the walls. Can they be cleaned and used as they are or will you need to paint a fresh color. If there need to be these types of repairs, the easiest time to do them is when the room is empty.
Now, think about what you need in the nursery.
The first step is adding a bed. When shopping for a new bed, take time to look at the beds that convert from baby bed into a toddler bed. These will give you more use. When considering used beds make sure that they are safe and sturdy. Many older beds do not meet modern safety standards.
To keep an eye and ear on the baby even when you are not in the room, the Philips Baby monitor is very convenient. It will allow you to know when your baby needs you without having to constantly open a door and take a chance on waking the baby. This puts less stress on both the baby and the parents.
Babies need lots of clothing and diapers. While a normal dresser can store some of these items, home storage cabinets work very well in the nursery. The cabinets can be attached to the walls to prevent the baby from pulling them over on him as he becomes a toddler. As the child grows, the cabinets can become storage for all the toys that will become a part of your life.
Since you have converted your guest room, you may want to consider making provisions for overnight guests. Many families find that a sleeper sofa or even an air bed make for adequate sleeping arrangements for the new out of town grandparents that want to visit the baby.
